Aggies Uncorked Wine Club FAQ
This is your place for all Frequently Asked Questions of Aggie Uncorked -- whether you're just curious or have a specific question about our wine club, we've collected the answers to your commonly asked questions. Don't see your question listed below? Feel free to contact us by email at [email protected].
- Do I have to be a UC Davis alumni to join?
- Nope, anyone aged 21 years and up is welcome to join!
- Are the wines all made by UC Davis alumni?
- Yes! Featured wines have very close connections with UC Davis, and were crafted by former Aggies who are either winemakers and/or winery owners. They are generally small production, hand crafted and often estate grown wines. These are not grocery store or nationally distributed wines.
- How do you select the wines?
- First, we take pride in selecting delicious wines that are also a great price and value, and we put a lot of work into the process. We conduct a panel tasting of potential wines for each seasonal release. Only the top wines get selected and featured. To get into the panel tasting, we work with a long and growing list of alumni winemakers.
- How much does it cost?
- The cost varies each release, and depends on your club selection. You can see the range on the club signup page here. We aim to select wines between $30 and $60 per bottle, with an average price of $45 per bottle.
- When will I be billed?
- 5-7 days- before each shipment in early May and late October.
- Can I customize my club?
- We offer four kinds of clubs of different wine types and quantities. For more information, see our wine club membership sign up page here. If there are extra bottles of wine from the previous release, you are invited to add them to your upcoming shipment.
- Can I send wine as a gift?
- Yes, it's a great idea! You can select how many shipments they receive, or keep it ongoing. We recommend telling the recipient first, because they will need to sign for their packages.
- How often do wine club shipments go out?
- Our specially-selected wines go out two times a year in early May and late October. We'll send an email two weeks prior to confirm your information.
- How do I receive my wines?
- Wines are all sent by UPS from a fulfilment warehouse in wine country. You can also get text and email alerts for wine shipments. We do not store wine or ship your wines from campus.
- Do I have to be home to sign for my wine shipment?
- Yes, you or someone else will need to sign for the wine shipment upon its delivery due to it being an alcohol product. If you are not home during the day, we recommend shipping to a business address, or a local UPS store or Access Point.
If you are shipping to a home address, please try to be home for your delivery on the first attempt.
UPS recently enacted a new policy that wines that are not delivered on first attempt will be rerourted to a local UPS Access Point. There is now no 'second or third' attempt.
Wines that are sent back to our warehouse incur shipping costs in both directions, which are costs we must pass on to members. - Can I pause or cancel my wine club membership?
- If you ever need to pause or cancel your membership, simply email us at [email protected] and we can process your request. You are able to pause your shipment for 1 release and it will renew automatically.
- What states can you ship to?
- It's easier to list the states our wine club cannot ship to. If you see your state here, we cannot ship to it.
Utah
South Dakota
Michigan
Maine
Rhode Island
Connecticut
New Jersey
Delaware
Alabama
Mississippi
Arkansas
- Glossary. What does ____ mean?
- Order: this is the record of the sale for a individual wine club. Each includes an order number. If you have a wine club and send a gift club, it will show up as two orders.
Release: this terms applies to all wines and shipments that take place in a given time period, three times per year. Releases 'open and close'. If you sign up for a wine club during an open release, you get that release. If you sign up between releases, you get wines from the next release.
Season: we use this term loosely, but we do have three releases that take place in Fall, Winter, and Spring.
Shipment: this applies to an individual club member and their wine. A shipment is your box of wine that travels from our warehouse to you, and includes a unique tracking number. A gift recipients wine goes into their own shipment with their own tracking number.
