Join UC Davis Alumni and members of the Northern California Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) for our first crossover event during the annual IFT Conference in Chicago. Aggies and friends in town for the IFT Expo are invited to join local Chicago Alumni for an evening of networking and celebrating what UC Davis is doing in the world of food.

Arrive at 5 pm for appetizers and a no-host bar. Don’t miss the program at 5:45. “Design Thinking for Food”.  Charlotte Biltekoff and Lauren Shimek, Ph.D. ’98 will share highlights of how teams of UC Davis students are applying the principles of Design Thinking to the challenges of our food system. Last year they tackled the issue of food waste on campus and this year they’re designing ways to reduce food insecurity among students. Professor Biltekoff is a scholar of the cultural politics of food and health in the US, trained in the humanities and serving jointly on the faculties of American Studies and Food Science and Technology. Dr. Shimek is the founder of Food.Tech.Design, holds a PhD in Food Science from UC Davis, and spent over 9 years building and co-leading the Food Studio at the global design company IDEO, which is known for its work in developing, applying and disseminating the tools of Design Thinking.

The evening will also be a chance to meet other faculty from the Department of Food Science and Technology including Department Chair Dr. Linda Harris. We hope Chicago alumni from any industry will join NCIFT members and Aggies attending IFT for this first ever crossover alumni chapter/university department event celebrating a topic we can all agree on: food.

$20/person includes appetizers and beverages will be no host.

Please RSVP by July 9
