Voices of Hope: Driving Innovation in Breast Cancer and Care at UC Davis will feature an engaging discussion with Hala Kurdi Cozadd, Elizabeth Morris, MD, and Helen Chew, MD. Together, they will share their perspectives on the progress in breast cancer treatment, the hope that drives their work, and the vital role philanthropy plays in accelerating innovation and ensuring compassionate care for every patient.

Panelists

Elizabeth A. Morris, M.D.
Chair, Department of Radiology | Professor, Department of Radiology
Dr. Elizabeth Morris is Professor and Chair of Radiology at UC Davis Health and an internationally recognized leader in breast imaging. Her work focuses on advancing early detection through MRI and other cutting-edge screening technologies, with a strong commitment to personalized screening tailored to each woman’s risk profile. She has authored more than 200 scientific publications and co-authored the textbook Breast MRI: Diagnosis & Intervention.
A UC Davis alumna who went on to earn her medical degree at UCSF, Dr. Morris trained at Weill Cornell and Memorial Sloan Kettering before returning to UC Davis to lead its radiology program. In 2024, she was honored with the Gold Medal from the Society for Breast Imaging, recognizing her impact on breast cancer research, education, and patient care.

Helen K. Chew, M.D.
Vice Chief, Hematology & Oncology | Director, Clinical Breast Cancer Program | Professor of Medicine
Dr. Helen Chew is Professor of Medicine, Vice Chief of Hematology and Oncology, and Director of the Clinical Breast Cancer Program at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. She specializes in coordinating care across medical, surgical, and radiation oncology while also leading clinical trials that bring the latest therapies to patients. Her research spans novel treatments for breast cancer, serum tumor markers, and improving outcomes for patients facing complications such as thromboembolism or treatment-related cognitive changes.
A graduate of Stanford University and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Dr. Chew is deeply committed to compassionate, team-based care and to ensuring that scientific discovery is rapidly translated into better treatments for patients.
Moderator

Hala Kurdi Cozadd ‘98
Advisory Council Member, Women & Philanthropy
Born in Jordan to diplomatic parents, Hala spent much of her childhood living internationally before settling in Palo Alto. She graduated from UC Davis in 1998 with a BS in geology and later earned a master’s degree in counseling psychology. Hala has worked as a therapist with underprivileged youth and their families and has taught undergraduate psychology and graduate-level business psychology and leadership courses.
In 2021, Hala joined the Women & Philanthropy Advisory Council and served as Chair for two years. She is also a UC Davis Foundation Trustee, using her leadership to advance philanthropic support and steward private giving to strengthen the university’s research, education, and community impact.
