Inviting all alumni in the Davis and Sacramento region!
On January 15, 2024, King Hall's Black Law Students Association along with the MLK Day working group and the Office for Student Affairs will be hosting the 5th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and Celebration! This will be a great opportunity to give back to the local community.
This year's activities will include:
- A donation drive for Wellspring Women's Center in Sacramento. Donations will be collected at the School of Law on MLK Day (1/15/24) from 10 am until 3 pm. A wish list of essential items that can be ordered online and sent directly to the Center can be found here. Additionally, there will be three volunteer days where community members can help feed the women and children at the Center (1/12, 1/16 and 1/17).
- A blood drive at the School of Law on MLK Day
- Drive Hours: 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
- Location: Bloodmobile – King Hall, 400 Mrak Hall Drive, Davis Ca 95616
- Goal: 34 appointments, 24 donors and 26 lifesaving units of blood

- Service day at Fourth and Hope in Woodland on the morning of MLK Day. Projects will include: painting, cleaning up and more at Fourth and Hope.
Finally, join the School of Law at noon on MLK Day for lunch and remarks from Superior Court Judge Allison Williams! Prior to being appointed as a superior court judge by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2021, Judge Williams served as an attorney for 15 years at the Sacramento Public Defender's Office. Judge Williams is originally from Guayana, but, was raised in the cities of Oakland and Hayward. She is one of only three attorneys ever to be appointed as a superior court judge after working for the Sacramento Public Defender's Office, and the first in the last 30 years. Individuals will also be able to watch from home via Zoom if they are unable to join us in person.
