Aggie Connection: Matt’s path to winemaking began somewhat unexpectedly. A highly recruited football player, he chose UC Davis for its outstanding academics and football program, but arrived unsure of what he wanted to study. A chance round of golf back home in Temecula with a former winery owner changed that. The conversation sparked an interest in wine that led Matt to earn his degree in Viticulture and Enology while playing four seasons of football for the Aggies. After graduating, he took his winemaking education around the world, working harvests in Napa, New Zealand, and Tuscany before returning to California and ultimately joining JUSTIN in 2008. Landmark Vineyards was acquired by JUSTIN in 2011, which pulled Matt into its winemaking team supporting its growth as a brand. Matt now oversees all winemaking for the Wonderful Company in his role as Vice President of Operations & Winemaking.
