A Message to Our Community

Dear Aggie Network:

As events have unfolded over the past week, we have experienced a variety of emotions as we struggle to understand what we have witnessed. Fear, anger, pain, confusion and disbelief are just some of the words that have been used to describe the reaction to the images and information.

Our network of more than 260,000 alumni, parents and supporters of the university remind us that the values and Principles of Community at UC Davis promote equality, understanding and inclusiveness. We do not accept bias or violence, and we take pride in the work our campus does to promote social justice.

In these times of global uncertainty, please know that the Alumni Association is committed to finding ways to impact the world through open dialogue and thoughtfulness. Our mission to connect those who support UC Davis to the campus and one another has never been more crucial as we all work to move ahead, together, in the spirit of peace, strength and hope.

Our campus leadership has shared their thoughts and emotions, and yesterday, an opportunity to observe a moment of silence was held with comments from Chancellor Gary S. May and Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Renetta Garrison Tull. Additionally, the office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion has created this webpage of resources to support our community as we continue to find ways to build and strengthen our diverse culture at UC Davis.

As the Principles of Community state "we recognize that to create an inclusive and intellectually vibrant community, we must understand and value both our individual differences and our common ground." As One Aggie Network, we are dedicated to doing so.
