Resident Advisors
As your student settles into campus life at UC Davis, they are embarking on an exciting journey of independence, learning, and growth. Living on-campus for the first time is a major milestone, and while it brings a world of new opportunities, it can also come with a few adjustment period jitters.
To help ease this transition, your student has a built-in support system right in their residence hal or Apartment: their Resident Advisor (RA).
RAs are undergraduate student leaders who live on location and are dedicated to building a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community. Here is how an RA can support your student this year:
- Community & Connections: RAs host social events and floor activities to help students make friends, get involved, and feel at home.
- Academic & Campus Resources: From finding tutoring services and navigating campus transportation to connecting with Student Health and Counseling Services, RAs are trained to direct students to the right campus resources.
- Navigating Roommate Life: Sharing a room for the first time can require adjustment. RAs guide students through roommate agreements and offer neutral, compassionate mediation if conflicts arise.
- 24/7 Safety & Emergency Support: RAs are on call during evenings and weekends to handle hall emergencies, lockouts, or safety concerns, ensuring help is always close by.
Encourage your student to say hello, ask questions, or drop by their RA's door whenever they need guidance.
Let’s Talk Eating On-Campus

Just Ask and Try a Taste
Did you know that our dining commons have two unique programs—Just Ask and Try a Taste. Want a burrito without meat? Questions about ingredients or preparation? Just ask us! We want your student to feel right at home so feel free to ask us any questions or request a modification of any menu item. We’re happy to help! For Try a Taste, your student can ask a chef at any platform for a taste of a dish before committing to a whole plate. Not only can this help them decide, but it’s also a sustainable way to cut down on food waste!
