Charles Melton ’08 named UC alumni regent

Charles Melton, a University of California, Davis, alum and public policy leader, has been appointed to serve on the UC Board of Regents, representing more than 2 million graduates worldwide.

 

Melton, who graduated in 2008 with a degree in political science, will serve a two-year term as a University of California alumni regent beginning today (July 1).

UC Davis student graduates after more than 47 years

Deborah Thompson Austin of UC Davis’ alumni association will instruct hundreds of undergraduates to move the tassel on their graduation cap from left to right at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center Saturday morning.

For her husband, Ron Austin of Fairfield, California, it will be a moment — and degree — more than 47 years in the making.

The 66-year-old is proud he has finally completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in political science, but he sees his life as a cautionary tale that he shares with first-year students.

Student Housing and Dining Services Wins Two NACUFS Awards

We are thrilled to announce that Student Housing and Dining Services has won 2 awards from the  National Association of College & University Food Services (NACUFS).  We all strive to provide a dining experience that is the least stressful and most enjoyable part of our students’ day. As part of this mission statement for dining, we work hard to provide quality service to our students and create a positive work environment for our staff.

Meeting basic needs, fueling student success

As a UC Davis parent, you understand better than anyone the importance of supporting our students and ensuring their basic needs are met—so they can thrive in the classroom, on campus, and beyond.

One impactful service doing exactly that is The ASUCD Pantry—a student-run, student-led organization dedicated to providing food and essential items to UC Davis students. Created to ease financial strain, The Pantry helps ensure that no student has to choose between buying a textbook and having a meal.

Summer Sessions broadens, expands offerings for 2025

With more virtual and hybrid classes, new courses and expanded support, UC Davis 2025 Summer Sessions helps students graduate early, stay on track and get ahead.

“There truly is something for everyone at Summer Sessions, whether you need to focus on that one tough chemistry class, learn a new language or complete a minor,”  said Omega Lee, Summer Sessions executive director. “It’s possible to make that happen at UC Davis,”

Sue Ebeler wins 2024 Women & Philanthropy Impact Award

For Sue Ebeler, M.S. ’85, Ph.D. ’93, the most rewarding part of her career isn’t the research awards or the international recognition — it’s the students whose lives she has changed. As a professor of viticulture and enology and associate dean of Undergraduate Academic Programs in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Ebeler has spent more than 30 years at UC Davis building a culture of belonging, mentorship and opportunity. Her leadership has empowered countless students — especially women — to find their place and thrive.
