Summer classes provide unique learning opportunities

Students staying in Davis over the summer see a different side of the university. It’s warmer, but quieter, and students can enroll in a wide variety of summer classes during the break from the usual hustle and bustle of bicycles, buses and foot traffic.

With over 700 courses offered, participating in UC Davis Summer Sessions allows students access to smaller classes and the option to pursue other opportunities during the academic year. Students can also complete a second major, fulfill a minor, or complete a lab course without having 3-4 other classes to focus on at the same time.

Summer courses are offered in two main sessions — June 24-Aug. 2 and Aug. 5-Sept. 13 — as well as special sessions running variable times between June 14-Sept. 13

"Summer session courses allow students to shorten time to degree or explore new subjects outside their major courses," said Omega Lee, the Summer Sessions executive director.

Registration opened last month for UC Davis students, and finding the perfect courses are simplified by using the tools provided to guide students through the process. Classes can be searched by departments, number of units and in-person and virtual course offerings. Visit the Summer Sessions website for information about courses, fees and financial aid, summer
resources and advising.

Each of the four undergraduate colleges offers multiple courses. The Graduate School of Management and the School of Education offers classes that can help students complete a minor.

"Watch for the Summer Sessions team around campus this spring," Lee said. "We have fun tabling events planned and love to meet with students. We will provide more details about unique courses, new courses and more for summer 2024."
