Hundreds turn out to discover undergraduate research opportunities
UC Davis undergraduate students seek hands-on research opportunities. Their desire to get involved in research now was evident when more than 1,000 students showed up for the Oct. 12 Undergraduate Research Fair.
The event, led by the Undergraduate Research Center in UC Davis Undergraduate Education, provided students the opportunity to explore the many research opportunities here on campus. Students explored a variety of research topics from science, humanities, social sciences and a variety of other topics.
The fair was open to all students, whether a first-year student exploring research for the first time or a fourth-year student seeking specialized opportunities. Students met with faculty to learn about the research process, discover available research positions and connect with fellow Aggies with similar interests.
More than 70% of UC Davis undergraduate students participate in research or other experiences outside the classroom. As a leading research university, UC Davis provides undergraduates access to research opportunities often only available to graduate students at some other universities. The Undergraduate Research Center, or URC, offers the fall research fair to give students a glimpse of what may be available to them, too.
In addition to showcasing research happenings to undergraduates, the URC team works to encourage and facilitate undergraduate research opportunities for your student as a high-impact experience, increasing their success in all majors and programs, and beyond, in future careers.
URC leads an annual undergraduate research conference, provides funded research programs, and brings colleges, departments and faculty together to expand undergraduate discovery experiences at UC Davis.
